Chuck Palahniuk - Choke
One of my favorite author's books, a dark tale about an antihero for our deranged times.
Needing to pay elder care for his mother, Victor devises an ingenious scam; he pretends to choke on pieces of food while dining in upscale restaurants. He then allows himself to be 'saved' by fellow patrons who, feeling responsible for Victor's life, go on to send checks to support him. When he's not pulling his stunt, Victor cruises sexual addiction recovery workshops for action, visits his addled mom, and spends his days working at a colonial theme park.
One of the best novels I've ever read, even though I didn't get the best impression from reading the back cover. He has such a knack for crafting mesmerizing sentences and displays such satire in all of his novels.
5/5

As normal as I am, I'm an absolute sucker for abstract, satire writing.

Re: Chuck Palahniuk - Choke
Read one Chuck book "Fight Club" and its the first book I've ever read that I thought the film was better. Usually the books are always so much better than any film adaption.
That sort of put me off him which is a shame as it wasnt a terrible book at all.
maybe when I get back into fiction I may pick some more of him up.

Film's excellent mate, and yeah it was such a big hit. But the book develops the characters so much more and the majority of the messages in the film are missed.
High five for Pixies man

Pixies rule...
Maybe I didnt give the book a chance it was in a time when I was not into reading much and picking it up and putting it down for weeks which is never good for a book.
I might read it again I have it somewhere.
