PANS LABYRINTH
Well watched this at the weekend in between marathon "24" episode sessions.
I've seen it a few times now and I still love it.
One of my favourite films of the last 10 years.
Its gorgeous, it has a great setting in the Spanish Civil War and the imagination just runs riot.
The acting, dialogue and directing is brilliant, I love G. Del Torro's style so clever and inspiring.
The film is just magical and the ending heart breaking and then warming with a fantasy twist that is golden. Makes me cry everytime...lol
If you have an open mind and don't mind Spanish subtitles this is a film to be seen.
10/10

Re: PANS LABYRINTH
alot of people are put off as it's subtitled, but as DM says it's a fantastic movie, with two stories running/mingling together. One's regarding the Spanish Civil War and some rebels causing mayhem in the mountains and the other about a little girl finding this ancient world and fullfilling a prophecy of returning to her father (won't say more than that).
Very good movie, deffo worth watching

Re: PANS LABYRINTH
Pans has to be the most despressing film Ive ever seen, this is not a criticism, its brilliant. Saw it in the cinema on release and havent watched it since coz it put me on a downer for days. Im quite sensitive to stories regarding the helpless... especially kids, animals ET and Dumbo. Not keen on the subject of loss in recent years either. Mabey Im just a cynic but, the fantasy part of that film was 100% that girls pyscosis, a new reality manufactured to protect herself from her hellish life. I couldnet see it any other way. And even her 'fantasy' was corrupted and twisted. I found it incredibly hard to watch.
I would definatly suggest it as a film that has to seen,,, but for fucks sake have somthing on standby to change the mood afterwards!!!!
Anything by Luc Besson, especially early career is well worth a watch, love his camera work.

I think your mind set is the reason for your depression over this.
I totally agree with your description of the girl creating this fantasy realm. Its how I see it and how I remember being as a child. Always day dreaming of things though not so harsh or so bad.
I found the ending beautiful and though sad very uplifting.
The girl died but she found her freedom in death, some might say.
Its a lovely film...
Love Luc Besson too...
