I've only seen American Psycho once, didn't fully get it myself, but I found it quite funny in places.

I haven't seen the film, but have read the book.

It seemed to me that they were trying a little bit too hard.

The book goes off on tangents all the time. There's a whole chapter about Huey Lewis & The News.
Odd that I found that stranger than the bits about cutting up prostitutes and strangling yuppies!?
