Guns N Roses - Chinese Democracy

Well,,, whats that rule? If you leave it over 3 years, then dont bother? Mabey its 5 years. Either way GnR,,, or the Axl Rose freak show, have finally released Chinese Democracy, billed as the most anticipated album of all time. rumours of 35 tracks, every musician you've ever heard of playing on it, then all tracks binned and started afresh coz he found the right 'band'.

Anyway, now its here and as far as I can tell he's in a no win situation. It would literally have to be the best album of all time to live up to the hype,,, crossing all the T's and dotting all the I's of every fan and new ear alike. An impossible task, so you have to admire his crazy cajones for trying.

The album is a mix of just about every music style and production technique used in hard rock, but it dosent feel like a desperate attempt to please people. Although there are drum machines, and string sections and some truely dodgy songs, there are also some real Gems!
He still has his voice and a brilliant sense of melody, which in my opinion is the most important skill. Dosent matter what style of music you like,,, thrash, death metal, punk, rock, pop... its the melodies that raise bands out of the mire. And this album has hooks in spades. It has an old school sensibility underlying its modern sound. I think it works.

Anyway to paraphrase Bruce Springsteen.... "you cant talk about music, its like sex, you just gotta do it''

Well a former massive Gn'R fan I have to say not been looking forward to this.
Been down hill for GnR for a long time even the "illusions" album sets werent that great bar some top songs.

I may give this a download and check it out the new single is hmmm "ok" it gets better the more I here it...
