Re: Red Dwarf blasts off 2night
Certainly an interesting ending, for sure and very open. I'd like to think it would imply they would do another, but if its like this one, I'm not sure it would go down too well.
Re: Red Dwarf blasts off 2night
They need new characters and ideas.
Thing with red dwarf was it was new and innovative.
This isnt new or innovative.
They need to get the right baalnce of old gags but alos bring in some new ideas, characters and concpets to give it life.

Re: Red Dwarf blasts off 2night
Thought it was clever in parts, but just not funny. And thats kinda the point. Very Dissapointed. Even the cast looked like they were forcing it, bit embarrasing at times. Shame.
Re: Red Dwarf blasts off 2night
what a waste of my time, nothing like the originals, not as funny and totally boring, no laughs in the whole thing, should have left it alone rather than ruin the memory.
maybe i just like the originals too much.

Re: Red Dwarf blasts off 2night
I caught up with the Saturday and Sunday episodes last night
- Spoiler:
- The one part i found funny was where Lister started writing the
scene and Rimmer kept banging his balls on the edge of the table then Kryten kept getting hit in the face with the rake and then Cat got
whacked by two rakes, thats the only scene i found funny throughout the
entire 3 episodes

Re: Red Dwarf blasts off 2night
All the Episodes had their moments, I thought - but not enough. They could have shrunk the whole thing into one, cut out a lot of stuff - like the Montage at the end of the first episode.
Not the greatest Dwarf ever, sadly .
- Spoiler:
- I did like the Sideshow Bob Syndrome with Kryten in Episode 3, that was good. Also, the "Excuse me matey chum" bit with Kryten speaking to the shop person. I actually laughed more when Rimmer pushed the other hologram into a car.
Not the greatest Dwarf ever, sadly .
Re: Red Dwarf blasts off 2night
it started bad it got better but it was never gonna live up to its past.
They should have shown the last series before just so this one seemed alright.

I can't believe I missed them! I didn't even know they were on (the TV hasn't had much facetime lately) I'm so bummed. Can you guys keep your eyes peeled for repeats just in case I miss them again.

Re: Red Dwarf blasts off 2night
Or Dave ja vue....
Quite enjoyed them really, yes the first episode wasn't up to scratch and it was a touch weird with no canned laughter but still, for a programme to make this follow on ten years after the fact and to generate the interest it did - over 2 million viewers for the first one - is impressive even if it did go down to 1 mill for the second.
And if nothing else it re-kindled my love for the original series and means that I'm not just skipping over to Dave when it's on for 5 minutes so I don't have to put up with adverts on whatever channel I'm really watching.

Re: Red Dwarf blasts off 2night
You can buy canned laughter.
Maybe you should all have got the missus to open the can at the appropriate time.
LOL may have improved it.
I still dont think it was awful, it was better than half the crap comedy on Tv at moment.

Re: Red Dwarf blasts off 2night
I thought it was alright and it was nice to see that the cat was more like a cat again. I still think that they should have done the book "Last Human" thats what I was hoping for, I mean most of the first and second series are nicked from the books (just bit's here and there) And they are so much better for it!

Re: Red Dwarf blasts off 2night
Canned laughter always sounds fake to me. I still think that they should have had a live audience, and used their laughter.
I know Dave aren't that big, and studio tickets are normally free, but they could easily have charged for this one, due to the shows following.

Re: Red Dwarf blasts off 2night
It did up until the 7th series, I think it was. They brought them back again for series 8 though. I'm fairly certain that on the dvd for series 8, Doug Naylor admitted that losing the audience had been a mistake.
A mistake he repeated for these specials, unfortunately!

Re: Red Dwarf blasts off 2night
Yeah, Dwarf was the best when it was infront of an audience. It makes the actors keep their timing. And I hate canned laughter, its too american.

Re: Red Dwarf blasts off 2night
that's the point there was no laughter full stop, no atmosphere... dunno y but I enjoy it better when there is laughter thru the audience

Re: Red Dwarf blasts off 2night
i thought they loved doing it infront of an audience, so it was a bit lacking with absolutley nothing, but i suppose nice that there isnt a crap canned laughted.
it took a while to get "dwarfy" with the bending of what can happen and condensing of story, i was pleased from the get go with the chance of expansion pre to those three though... chance for better filler.
