need help identifying a track
okay I put this up at one of those what's that called sites but alas correct response so maybe someone here can help me as we all seem to have eclectic music taste
this is an odd one - it was used in both tv promos and in programs from
at least 2002 up to 2007. It may still be used somewhere. It sounds
like it should have been a song by Death in Vegas but it isn't. I have
their entire catalogue and it isn't on any of it. It has been used in
primarily shows with a serious nature such as war, crime and the
environment, It has been used on both the BBC and Channel 4. I've long
forgotten the shows as it was on so many different ones - one of the shows I believe was on Afghanistan back in 2002-2003 the one about US soldiers shooting drums people were hidden in
but it sounds like it was recorded in a vacuum, slightly concussed and
often used to escalate a point of grim seriousness - I think it's
instrumental and it's not classical or opera based. You'll have to
forgive me but the best way I can explain the track is like this: whoam
whoam (beat) whoam whaom (beat) - the song obviously starts to build
but programs always fade it out at that point. Any help would be
greatly appreciated as I would like to find out who the artist is and acquire the music so that I can hear what the entire song sounds like.
as I said it's not Death in Vegas and it's not Massive Attacks Angel

gawd Izzi, don't spose you can find a you tube vid of any of the adverts with it in. I hate not being able to find out about songs, that and samples in songs - drive me nuts trying to find out where they are from - eg Skinny Puppy - testure - "I hope you make sure we're properly dead before you start on us old ripbeak" - from plague dogs (wierd source for a sample). Drove me nuts for ages trying to work out where it's from.

third eye foundation...???
I made a connection on something similar a while ago.
I love it when you here real obscure music on commercial tv shows/adverts and think ah! if only people loved that song like I do.
Seem to be a lot of The National on at present, which is nice but I'm the only one I know who goes "Ah! I love that song" everybody else says what song.

yeah I had similar with the sigur ros bbc balloon advert, and Rjd2 the horror which loads of adverts used. Does kind of kill the track a bit unfortunatly.

Re: need help identifying a track
never heard of Third Eye Foundation but I like their sound - the few bits I've checked out on youtube - didn't have 016 but looking it up on the web its supposedly a remix of Thurston Moore's Root. there is a possibility that it could be them - they have loads of stuff released so its going to take me awhile to go through it all -
just found the Thurston Moore track - its not it - damn
I wish I could remember - it was used in so many things - I think it may have been used in very early TV promos for Children of Men BUT all I've found on youtube is the ones with Sigur Ros - it's funny I can remember the feeling they were trying to evoke with the song but nothing with the song featured - it was always grim - the evils of men - deception.
I spent several days trolling youtube for it but no such luck - looking up old Dispatches episodes that kind of thing.
Nowadays they mostly use Death in Vegas - Dirge for stuff or Sigur Ros - one thing The Hubb mentioned to me is that he thinks Chris Cunningham was working as a music researcher for the BBC back then - so possibly something he was into.
Skinny Puppy - they use to pull their samples from loads of stuff - particularly some old public service docs you could rent for free in the states at blockbuster - we're talking cheesy crap most people overlook - my friend Rob rented a few of these to get samples and as we were watching it - kept finding lots of things Puppy ripped from it.
In Skinny Puppy's Dig It - is a sample from an old Twilight episode "Do you hear that, that music it's a band do you hear it" is from the episode with Mr. Wickwire and the astronauts - where everyone is frozen like a mannequin. also on worlock a lot of the samples are of Charles Manson
One of the best songs to name the sample from is Colourbox - Hot Doggie - as it's all samples from films - the most obvious being 2000 Maniacs and Evil Dead,
