Armistice Day
Well a minutes silence on a forum dosent really work, so a post will have to suffice.
This years Armistice is a little more poigiant as the last of the tommys passed this year. Bill Stone died at 108 in January followed by both Henry Allingham, 113, and Harry Patch, 111, in July. So, truely a generation to which we owe a great debt has passed....

Sorry the post is so short, wanted to make sure it was posted at 11:11

Re: Armistice Day
Always do the minute silence,
although its 2 mins in the Courts Service.
Used to do the armistice parades aswell a few years back when I was an Air cadet.

Re: Armistice Day
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Re: Armistice Day
Can't find an "I'm observing the silence" smiley without it having some sort of wrong connotation and this is one thread where I'm not going to the crude / sarcastic side.
Hats off to all involved, gone but not forgotten.

Re: Armistice Day
i think the old solider in Perth is still alive...he is British and went to Australia before the start of WW2...he went on to serve the Australian royal navy
i always honour the two minute silence...my great grandfather was serving in Ypres (flanders fields) when he was fatally struck in the hip by shrapnel...he left behind a wife and five children, the yongest of which was 8 months old
