Re: Pixies - My favourite band
there used to be some hilarious covers of pixies songs done by someone called Matthew, one in the style of Pince, wave of mutilation done in the style of the beegees, and monkey gone to heaven in a sinatra style - they are wicked, but have completely disappeared from the net

speaking of great bits of music, and to put us back on topic, one of the best song intros ever IMHO.
The Pixies - Velouria
and excuse this video, as it was the only way to hear the mental cover

Re: Pixies - My favourite band
I love Into the white....
Wish I ahd seen them back then.
Since reformed seen them 3 times and they are awesome but to have seen the, when they were not known, would have been something special.
A band I have loved since the beginning and remember seeing when only 20 or so people attended their gigs is "THE NATIONAL". They are much bigger now but I remember first time I saw them at Reading Festival in a tent with 20 amybe 30 people and they absolutely rocked, one of my fav gigs ever.

Re: Pixies - My favourite band
I saw the Last Rights tour as well as Too Dark Park
the smallest gig I saw was The Dead Milkmen at Storyville (also in NOLA) had maybe 12- 15 people there (that was including staff) - they told us to pull up chairs and they also sat down and played with one of the guys continously getting up and running to the bathroom - he ended up having food posioning but he kept coming back to play- why was the gig so empty...well lots of people had evacuated because a hurricane was suppose to be coming - we didn't - went and saw the Dead Milkmen instead - the hurricane didn't come by he way.
was lucky enough to have seen quite a few bands back in the day in small venues - some went on to become massive others just had small cult following - One of the ones that went massive was NIN -saw them at Tips for $2 the night before they went on the first lollapooloza tour - the other Marilyn Manson also at Tips (Tipitinas) by far the best gig at Tips was Crash Worship
