Gears of War: Aspho Fields
TeamXbox have posted info on a new Gears of War novel, info here
http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/18080/Gears-of-War-Aspho-Fields-Hits-Book-Store-Shelves/
I might pick this up as the author, Karen Traviss, also wrote the four Star Wars: Republic Commando novels and they were top notch (recommend them to all Star Wars fans)

Re: Gears of War: Aspho Fields
I've bought the Halo books and they were excellent, so I may consider this - but I've got a large reading list. I'm finishing off the Halo Books again, then I promised myself another read through Lord of the Rings...Then I'll take it from there...Besides, by the time I've read all I've got to do, the book will either be cheap or rare, and I'll definitely know whether to get it or not :D .

I was thinking about picking the mass effect novels up not really a reader myself but they are tempting me seeing as I loved the game

Re: Gears of War: Aspho Fields
I bought the Halo books and thought they were dire. Though, to be honest I only finished the first. Not very well writen, and almost a shot for shot copy of the game.
Killing every single creature in the games is ok, cause you are doing it. But reading about every single creature geting killed is so tedious. I honestly thought it would add depth to the world, but it didn't.
So late to cut a long story short, but I don't think I will ever read a book based ona game again

Not read them and was tempted but I'll give it a miss...
Only fun/kiddy fiction I read is probably Warhammer: The Horus Heresy books.
I loved Warhammer as a kid and always wanted to understand the horus Heresy and how the Imperial Empire split and turned into Chaos.
Its not the best writing and more like comics but stretched over a few hundred pages. Can be very enjoyable at times...

Re: Gears of War: Aspho Fields
I've just finished reading this and I thought it was excellent. I found it a very good plot, although my only disappointment with it was the fact that it kept chaning time between "Present Day" (which, I believe is just before Gears 2 starts - as the book ends with Marcus coming out of the hospital) and a battle even before E-Day in the Pendulum Wars. Don't get me wrong, its got some interesting plot elements and opens up whole new set of possible stories. They are releasing another one by the same Author in July too, which should be good.
Worth a Read if you like Sci-Fi stuff to be sure.
