Re: Best Horror Movies
if seen both Battle Royals, wicked films, although i do agree the second isnt as good as the first but then most sequels aren't.

Re: Best Horror Movies
Ive seen a few good ones like 'house on haunted hill' and 'silent hill'. Think i just dont like hill's very much, lol. Think ive seen loads of horror films and theres so many different ones that i think horror shouldn't be a genre, maybe break it down a bit.

i really dunno how to break it down to be honest. Horror movies which deserve the title as being horror, not funny duddy ones (in my opinion) such as Final Destination, which gets funnier each movie.
Does that make me sound weird???
breaking down horror movies down to whatever ones make you guys jump out of your skin

Re: Best Horror Movies
No you mean Horror as in a film which was designed to provoke you to be afraid not one which goes for adrenaline rush of action sequences (Final Destination) or Shock tactics (Hostel) or Gross out laughs (Braindead). The proper Horror genre that used to make you jump to your bed when the lights were out :P

Re: Best Horror Movies
thats a good description ichi, i think at diff times i go for different movies even under the same genre of horror.
final destination made me laugh, it was almost clever in a way of using the obvious death chasing stupid people, but seriously funny slip in the bath.
the omen was surprising and decent build up of suspense etc.
has anyone seen camp sleepaway ? its a hidden gem from 90s or something, id recommend watching the first one all the way through, im not going to spoil it with any description.

Re: Best Horror Movies
I agree about the Japanese horror films,i watched Ring 1&2 before they were remade and enjoyed them more than the remakes(always the case though)
Gin Gwai which means The Eye is a good film, the remake with Jessica Alba wasnt as good imo but like i said above they never are
When i was younger i used to watch the two horror films on BBC1 on a Friday night, most were black and white and Hammer ones but to me they were done pretty well although now they probs look naff LOL
I watched Haunting In Connecticut recently and have to say its the one film that has scared me for awhile now
Some of my faves are :
A Nightmare On Elm Street
Halloween
Poltergeist
The Exorcist
Aliens
IT
Amityville Horror (remake with Melissa George)
Ginger Snaps
Friday the 13th's
Like someone mentioned above there are different types,i think the ones that go for gore shock horror are good but sometimes abit too much

i LOVE Japanese horro, they ar my fav. that reminds me i need to buy R-Point after seeing it on film4 that was a good film, random. The Exorcist makes me laugh only when the girls is in bed, but other than it think its boring. I've Never heard of Ginger Snaps, I'll look out for that one. Halloween is OK.
Hammer Horror has to be great though i brought the collection although not all of it, im sure that some films are missing, for £20 in HMV several months back. Classic
Is Haunting in Connectuit new? I watched The Uninivited, that was a good film, but maybe it was because i watching it when i was sleepy :2111:
I was wondering has the law changed since the 80's coz horror films are no longer what they used to be which is a shame

Re: Best Horror Movies
I put Exorcist because i watched it when i was young and it did freak me out I have watched it since and didnt think it was that bad,i think The Entity scared me more
Ginger Snaps was made into a trilogy in the end i think, ive watched them all but the first one is pretty good, modern day tale of a girl getting bitten by a werewolf, not so much horrorish but was pretty good and i enjoyed it
Haunting In Connecticut is newish, not seen The Uninvited but does look good from the trailer i watched
Its hard to define horror films i enjoy the Hostel 1&2 and Wrong Turn 1&2 but they rely heavily on gore tactics
Bargain about the Hammer Horror films

Re: Best Horror Movies
Exorcists is all about watching alone and not knowing its status.
I watched it as a young kid and it fucking scared me and the atmosphere and music was chilling.
But now it has such status that people watch it knowing what to expect and it makes it well not as great. But for me people dont make horror films like exorcist anymore.
Theres no slow build up or chilling suspence.
The Shining another classic that I watched when I was a kid. Again its more thriller than pure horror but the build up and direction is (imo) awesome...

I agree,my mum went to watch it when it first came out,she was only 15 and to this day she has never watched it again as it really freaked her out
My dad watched Nightmare On Elm Street when it first came out,he was working down London and went to see it with some mates,he came back home and freaked my mum out by waking up one night and saying Freddy's coming for me
My dad was quite a big bloke so to hear this was so funny

ROBAFET wrote:The ring (original jap)
Into the mirror (original)
suicide circle
deathnote
The orphanage (not seen myself, but supposed to be wicked)
Two sisters(original Korean)
let the right one in (polish film about a vampire - not scary, but very classy 10/10)
Dark City - not striclty speaking a horror, more noir sci - fi, but great
Pans Labyrinth
Audition (jap)
30 days of night (loved the comics too)
Angel heart
there are a few new and old to go at, as a general I stay away from hollywood remakes of eastern cinema.
The Orphanage is very creepy also by Pan's Lab director
Let the Right One In - is a Swedish film and it's excellent - not so much a horror film though
Audition - would agree excellent film until watching The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things the only film that really made me squirm stand up and pace while watching it
Suicide Club - its been awhile since I've seen it but the best lesson learned is why one shouldn't listen to bland pop
Here's a couple of mine
1. Don't Be Afraid of the Dark - ok it's only a TV movie from the 70's but it might scare the hell out of you. I saw it when I was about 4 or 5 and it caused reoccurring nightmares and night terrors for over 30 years - now I didn't initially know this but last year my hubby picked this up and I kept thinking this sort of looks familiar and then the scratching sound started and I was like "Oh my god! - NO NO NO - this is it" it was if I had regressed back to being a little girl. I couldn't watch the end and went upstairs. My husband who is a horror film afficiado and serious film collector told me the next morning it was one of the creepiest films he'd ever seen. Loaned it out to a friend and he hasn't watched it all because its too creepy. Granted it's not going to have the same effect on any of you that it did on me but if men pushing 40 are creeped out by it -well check it out for yourself
2. Pulse - The Japanese have a monopoly on scaring the hell out of ya - but of all
the Japanese horror films top marks go to this (Japanese version only
not remake)
Re: Best Horror Movies
I've seen don't be affraid of the dark when I was a kid might have to watch it again
Jacobs Ladder still creeps me out I saw it as a kid and it just gets me going everytime! If anyone has never seen it then it's a classic you have to watch

Re: Best Horror Movies
there's a scene in Jacob's Ladder that made me want to make films - it's the scene with the shadows of the helicopter blades twirling slowly over the grass - excellent cinematography. I went to film school for 2 years before I dropped out.
