HALO FUN I (HALO 3) - WINNER = ROSSINIO
The first annual Griffball and Rocket Race Tournament kicked off this evening, with 10 combatants entering to prove their worth in these two sports.
Participants:
-Rossinio
-NutmegVVilson
-krisab
-themightyb00sh
-Frag Kebab
-AndyAnnihilate
-Eg0filter
-Jaffacake79
-R0bafet
-Sammiad
Scoring:
Points are given in the manner of 1 for first, 2 for second 3 for third etc. Winning Griffball Team members get 1 Point, Losing Team get 3. Lowest Scorer in Total Wins.
This epic contest would feature 12 rounds of Halo Sporting carnage - simply too much mayhem for too many words. After every two Rocket Races, a Griffball Match of hammers and swords would be played to mix things up a little. Every round saw each player teamed up with another competitor, so that no-one would be paired with anyone else throughout. So without further ado...
Race 1 - Valhalla
A few debutants to the Rocket Race scene found difficulty getting going, and it was the experienced driving of Rossinio and skilled rockets of his team-mate Egofilter that won the day. Credit to Krisab and Nutmeg who had a very good attempt in perhaps their first races showing that they could very well be a threat in the rounds to come.
Winners: Rossinio and Egofilter
Race 2 - Sandtrap
Sandtrap - the barren map home to the vicious jump and remote locations. It played into the hands of Sammiad and Jaffa who managed to fend off the attentions of the Rossinio and Frag duo, as well as the Nutmeg and Boosh combo. Some good driving and some overall distracting carnage from Robafet helped the successful duo towards their first victories.
Winners: Sammiad and Jaffacake
Griffball 1
Red Team: Rossinio, Nutmeg, AndyAnnihilate, Ego, Robafet
Blue Team: Krisab, Boosh, Frag, Jaffa, Sammiad
The first Griffball match would always prove difficult. For all the Griffball virgins, it was a monumental match, and after a lag test match* the Red Team secured a 3-2 victory over the blue team with Rossinio and Nutmeg scoring the goals. Blue team performed admirably in the tournaments debut game and a few critical interceptions by Frag and Jaffa prevented a more biased scoreline.
Winners: Red Team
*Disclaimer: Lag test here denotes Rossinio not explaing the key feature of the game - picking the bomb up, the first time around and confusing the opposition because of it... My bad!
Race 3 - Isolation
A new location for Rocket Race veterans, Isolation is a small map, feauring underground tunnels and several obstacles. After a quick few captures in the opening moments, the Sammiad and Nutmeg duo proved the most consistant throughout the match securing victory. The colse quarters nature of the map meant that many teams opted for travelling on foot, somewhat negating the purpose of a Mongoose. The Association of Rocket Race Sporting Events or ARRSE has specified that it will probably not be a venue in the future because of this.
Winners: Sammiad and Nutmeg
Race 4 - Valhalla
Revisiting the first location for a second time, Valhall proved to be another festival of carnage. With many times scrapping over Mongooses and territory, there were explosions galore and only one team could win. This was a very close race, with several teams vying for a top spot however on the night, a successful duo of Nutmeg and AndyAnnihilate emerged.
Winners: Nutmeg and AndyAnnihilate
Griffball 2
Red Team: Boosh, AndyAnnihilate, Ego, Jaffacake, Robafet
Blue Team: Rossinio, Nutmeg, Krisab, Frag, Sammiad
In another frenzied Griffball match, the blue team managed to secure a victory with scores from Robafet, Nutmeg and Rossinio finalising the result. A valiant defence by the red team was present, but the pace of the Bomb carrier proved too much for the wild hammers. There were bodies everywhere.
Winners: Blue Team
Race 5 - Snowbound
Known as "Tricks" to Rocket Race competitors, the 10 debutants here fully understood why. A few ridiculously tricky jumps and tunnels galore provided a unique and sometimes frustrating challenge for the competitors. Much time was spent assassinating or grenading opponents until the duo of Ego and Jaffacake managed to secure victory. ARRSE have considered also removing this map for future events.
Winners: Ego and Jaffacake
Race 6 - Sandtrap
A return to Sandtrap was most welcoming for Sammiad who won here on the last occaision and he didn't disappoint again. With assistance from his team mate, AndyAnnihilate, their team managed to secure another victory, although they were followed closely by Rossinio & Robafet as well as Frag & Jaffa. There were some very spectacular shots that round, please revisit this post later for screenshots.
Winners: Sammiad and AndyAnnihilate
Griffball 3
Red Team: Rossinio, Krisab, Frag, Jaffa, Robafet
Blue Team: Nutmeg, Boosh, Andy, Ego, Sammiad
Another intense Griffball match saw Blue team take the early score thanks to a quick attack and flailing hammer. However Red team regained their composure with Robafet proving to be a formidable hammer-bearer. Krisab gets the "Nearly" award for getting so close to scoring on several occaisions but stubborn defence prevented several attempts. However, the Red onslaught wore down the blue competitors and eventual Red team secured victory.
Winners: Red Team
Race 7 - Standoff
A debutant circuit for Rocket Race, Standoff showed a lot of potential in its first appearance. There were several tricky ramps to tackle through, but when the vertan duo of Egofilter and Boosh got momentum they were difficult to stop. The map could prove hazardous for many dirvers owing to the sheer cliffs surrounding the location - and while I can't remember who it was - I'm pretty sure I saw someone fly off once. Rossinio and krisab were 4 points afloat from the overall winners, with Frag & Sammiad close behind them.
Winners: Ego and Boosh
Race 8 - Valhalla
The final race saw the competitors revist Valhalla one last time. With several unique pairings of teams lined up again, there would be no love lost between rivals and with several closely positioned players being forced onto the same team - it could have provided a tenser atmosphere. As it happens, however no-one knew who was in what position so it was the standard run of the mill all out rocket fest. Some slick driving from the Nutmeg and Jaffa duo proved too much for their rivals Boosh & Frag and they rushed to victory in the final Rocket Race of the evening.
Winners: Nutmeg and Jaffacake
Griffball 4
Red Ream: Rossinio, Krisab, Boosh, Frag, Robafet
Blue Team: Nutmeg, Andy, Ego, Jaffa, Sammiad
The final Griffball - indeed the last match of the night was a chance for everyone to exhibit their skills and Boosh set the pace with several early kills, both friendly and enemey. His form continued throughout as he racked up several kills (30) to aid his team to victory. Ego's defensive tactics worked well against single individuals, but when several Red team members decided to charge for the Placement plate, there was little he could do. With a few key scores by the red members there was only one winner.
Winners: Red Team
Overall Standings:
1st: Rossinio (22 Points -18 RR, 4 GB)
2nd: Sammiad (28 Points - 18 RR, 10 GB)
3rd: Nutmeg (30 Points - 22 RR, 8 GB)
4th: Jaffacake (31 Points - 19 RR, 12 GB)
5th: Egofilter (32 Points - 24 RR, 8 GB)
6th: Frag Kebab (34 Points - 28 RR, 6 GB)
7th: Robafet (34 Points - 28 RR, 6 GB)
8th: Krisab (35 Points - 29 RR, 6 GB)
9th: AndyAnnihilate (37 Points - 27 RR, 10 GB)
10th: Boosh (37 Points - 27 RR, 10 GB)
Comments and Reaction:
I had a whale of a time tonight, most fun I've had on Halo 3 in ages. Apologies for getting the scores wrong at the time only a few points went astray. Aside from me, it was very close and the only reason I came top, is because I had to practice the Rocket Races maps beforehand to see if they were suitable. The tied players (Frag & Rob and Andy & Boosh) were organised Alphabetically.
Anyhoo - I'm definitely up for sorting out another of these and I'll make an easier way of soring out teams so that in the last two races we ain't umming and Ahhing about who's on who's team. Thanks to those who participated, made it very easy for me to host - with, I believe, a decent connection (except for a few minor blips).
For future events, I may mix in a few other gametypes for diversity, but Rocket Race is always good for a laugh.
Thanks once again for a great evening - I'll see you all later!
Re: HALO FUN I (HALO 3) - WINNER = ROSSINIO
Had a great night and was a real laugh even got in to griff ball towards the end.
Have to say maybe a new HALO COMP that remains in duo modes.
I really like that and like in Wingman you are linked with just you and your partner.
Could create five or so different duo modes varying on what could be most fun.
Call it "Pair of Tits Competition"...?
LOL or probably better "The Halo Duo Championships" or whatever...
I liked the whole duo thing as it was more personnal. I find Halo can be quite unsociable sometimes which is my biggest gripe with it.

Re: HALO FUN I (HALO 3) - WINNER = ROSSINIO
yeah could be a good idea.
will speak to ross and see what we can do.
you can customize so much on halo maybe me and Ross play around in forge together and throw some stuff together.
Think lots of duo style games could be a lot of fun, just like Wingman can be.
Would we do it as a one off night comp or like wingman on gears have it over 5 weeks worth of fixtures...
anyway I'd def play even though i came bottom still had fun and me and ego won one round so yay!!!

hehe frag and i wa also rocketted off race 7 ! and i think it was the 12mins of airtime that cost us it ;p
ill be interested in some more game types or something, could a rocket race be more race like in a circuit with everyone trying to go around? or is that unworkable....
i kindof like the snow course even with nutmegs playing king of the hill.
hayho i got a silver ;)

We should get extra points for that!!!
I like the idea of a Rocket Race style demolition derby. That'd be neat!!
Once again, a great night. Thanks to all for making it fun, and Rossi for organising it.

Gutted I could't make this sounds like a great time was had by all. The missus had her brother round so she insisted on them playing Lips. Anytime you see my account playing lips its been hijacked by my 'better' half. hope there is another one soon that I can get in on

definately mate was a real good laugh and great thing is with the proximity chat as you work in 2's on rocket races you can talk all the time without having to press the d-pad.

Well chuffed about the reception and feddback I got from this. Looks like it may be usurping the Braaains Night as Halo 3 Tourney...
Anyhoo, I'll look into some more doubles team-modes for future reference...
Thanks for all who participated.
PS: Can someone do the Afterclan Tourney form thing?
