Top Ten Live Acts
Whats everyones fave 10 live acts? iv had to wittle mind down because am forever going to gigs or festivals (reading and download)
1. RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE - Reading 08 - worth the bruises worth the pain, a policital rant in the middle of 'wake up' and a pit to rival devildriver, metallica and slipknot. my poor suffering fiancee at home getting phone calls of me very drunk trying to explain how good they were... oppsss
2. GREEN DAY - Milton kenyes bowl 05 - amazing day scorching hot and top points for showmanship and general togetherness - missed the coach home and had to get my dad at 2 in the morning to come and pick us up... again oppsss.
3. METALLICA - Reading 08 - Reading has a sound limit something like 90 Dbs but because James hetfield had his own crew they said balls to that and decided to ramp it up - stunning and the bass was in my ears for days.
4. ENTER SHIKARI - every time i see them - two words - human pyrimids.
5. PETE DOHERTY - in any form - babyshambles or on his own, it doesnt matter yes i disagree with various things he does (has done) but then again hes my gen's Kurt.
6. MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE - Manchester apollo 04 - BEFORE BLACK PARADE.... were only just getting recog and gerard was on fire -great night and played the cover they did at radio 1 earlier in the day.
7. Machine Head - Download 07 - painful - got knocked out in a circle pit - woke up in welfare - drove to hospital by myself got bored waiting - drove bad and watched marilyn manson - who was shit.
8. Slipknot - Download 09 - the apocalpyse came to derbyshire - the nine ripped through everything and laid waste to all the naysayers.
9. JAY-Z - projekt revolution 08 - my fiancee is horrified I know most of Jigga's back catologue word for word... oppsss
10. LOSTPROPHETS - 8 times iv seen this band - just something about it all comes together...
honourable mention to oasis, smashing pumpkins, less than jake, dizzee rascal, yeah yeah yeahs etc etc.... lol

Re: Top Ten Live Acts
skinny puppy - saw the last rights tour and greater wrong tour - they always put on an amazing show.
Porno for Pyros - Perry Farrel really knows how to put a show on, full circus antics etc.
Most of the other bands I've seen over the years just play the songs like they are on the album, and I can listen to that at home more comfy and not have to queue for a beer. For me a band has to either do something special with the music, or put a good show on, not just stand there and play the music.

Re: Top Ten Live Acts
This is what I got so far. I need to think about the rest:
1) Rage Against The Machine. Seen them twice. Once in Japan at the Fuji Rock Festival and once at Reading '98 or '99? One of my all time favourite bands. I waited a whole day in the blasting sun in Japan to see them.
2) Jack Johnson. Saw him in Nottingham. Absolutely brilliant.
3) Squarepusher. Seen him many a time, but the best performance ever was at Bang Face 2008. I think I came in my pants.

Re: Top Ten Live Acts
ok my gigs - and this is just off the top of my head and in no particular order
1. Crash Worship - fucking hell it was brilliant - it's the only gig I've ever been to where people completely dropped all inhibitions and lived by the id (re primal state) people burning money, people ripping off their clothes and burning them - people dropping to the floor and fucking and and naked ladies being hauled around on a platform pouring wine into your mouth oh and the band starts a bonfire (@ march through French Quarter Lundi Gras, Cafe Brasil, Tipitinas, R.C. Bridge Lounge New Orleans, LA)
2. Skinny Puppy - Too Dark Park tour absolutely brilliant - Last Rights was as well (@ Numbers in Houston, TX)
3. Bad Brains - for the intensity - absolutely drenched after that show (@Tipitinas New Orleans, LA)
4. Einsturzende Neubauten - I swear I had an out of body experience during Headcleaner (@Metro Chicago, IL)
5. MInistry - on the Mind tour - KMFDM opened and En Esch shoved his fishnet wearing ass in my face and I smacked it - before Uncle Al went downhill (@ Numbers Houston, TX)
6. BUtthole Surfers - got rid of the faff and went down the nostalgia route - fan-fucking-tastic (@The Sanger New Orleans,LA)
7. Throbbing Gristle - the first gig after they reunited and the Camber Sands 3 day event had been cancelled - it was a special gig for those who had bought Camber Sands tickets - they filmed it and we ended up on the DVD) (@Astoria London)
8. Supersonic 2003 - saw LCD Soundsystem first UK gig, Scorn and Coil - and the acoustics were fabulous as the pool hadn't been drained and people were swimming around during the gig)
9. The The - the only gig that moved me to tears - but that's Matt Johnson for ya - the tears started falling during Love is Stronger than Death and by the time he started playing stuff from Soul Mining - I was a wreck - had an ephiany at that gig - it was the first moment of clarity when I could admit I hated my then partner (@Metro Chicago, IL)
10. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - seen several times but the best was when He came out and gave Blixa a red rose during Where the Wild Roses Grow - Blixa sang Kylies part hahahaha (@Metro Chicago, IL)
11. Firewater - a fifth of Bourbon - stark raving mad cleared the floor dancing around in nothing but a black slip before I hit rock bottom with a habit (@Empty Bottle Chicago, IL)
for the record I am now clean - over 7 years the really sad thing is it wasn't being rushed to emergency paralysed and with a brain clot that had stopped at the base of the skull - it was moving over here

Re: Top Ten Live Acts
Hmmmmm I've got to say Metallica at the new Wembley was probably the best. Of course the show was ace but the fact that there was a road trip from Manchester involved made the whole thing even more special.
Honourable mentions go to:
Machine Head - I've seen them many times, they always give 100% and are really involving.
Bloodhound Gang - You could go to a BG show without liking them and still be entertained..... unless you got vomited on in the front row. I also accidentally elbowed Evil Jahred Hasselhoff as he was walking past with a drink and he apologised to ME. That was funny.
Anthrax (Bush era) - Very good performance with an ace atmosphere
Mastodon - No banter, no introductions to songs, just straight through the set-list. The fact that their songs intertwine and accompany each other made the gig fantastic.
Hed PE - A guilty pleasure of mine and they can really be iffy, but to hear CBC (Cum Bitch Cum) live is hilarious.
In Flames - Never put a foot wrong although I haven't seen them since their last album which I didn't get along with.
The Haunted - I wasn't really a fan until I saw them a second time. Really punishing sound in a small venue; great.
Gojira - At the Haunted gig and for the same reason. Out of all the gigs I've been to, despite other heavier bands, I'd have to say this gig had it all. I swear I could feel my stomach acid sloshing due to the pounding bass.
Arnocorps - Metal band who perform songs based on Schwarzenegger films with lines int the lyrics. You have to be in on the joke, but being on stage, wankered shouting "GET YOUR ASS TO MARS!" into a mic with the singer was one of my most enjoyable moments.
Most disappointing; Static X. I really like them but on a night with sound problems they really came accross as dicks. Stopping songs halfway through, having ten minute breaks whilst their techs barged people out of the way on the floor, they were lucky that there weren't brawls.
And shittest? HIM when they supported Metallica at Wembley. They lasted 4 songs I think before calling it quits due to a mass exodus to the bar/toilets and boos.

well yeah - in more ways than you could possibly imagine I had to sober up - for the first month I was here I couldn't understand what anyone was saying - if I had lived down south it might have been different but the accents up north are very harsh- a few days after I arrived we were on a bus into St. Helens or Wigan and these two girls were talking - if you want to call it that - I asked The Hubb what language they were speaking - he whispered English, they're scousers - I asked what the hell is that - are you sure that's english? - strangely though people from Liverpool seem to think I'm Irish - so I guess we're even

Hehe, I live in Wigan Borough. I imagine the North can be quite hard to keep up with as there's a vast swathe of distinct local dialects. I suppose mine is a standard typical Lancasgire accent but live 10 miles from Manchester abd it's totally different to Manc. And then there's Scouse, Yorkshire, Geordie, etc. The Lake District has quite a harsh sound too.

The first time I visited Cornwall I got asked if I was american
I love my northern accent even more so now it's proven to be the kings english, broad yorkshire is the closest dialect and still retains some words from before the invention of the dictionary and has turn of phrase which would have been used by Uther Pendragon, or Saint Edmund (who was our patron saint before George who we stole and isn't English at all. And I feel we should go back as Edmund actually did die for his country, although fighting for the church, he was nailed to a tree for a few days then chopped up and burned when he wouldn't surrender to Norse invaders)
Last time I was in France some locals kept listen in on our conversation and making fun of how we were saying things so I switched to broad Yorkshire and they had no fucking clue what I was saying.
