Re: The Last Film You Hated Thread.
The Children
British horror - could have fallen into the its all right category if not for the lame end - and here is why it was lame - kids get ill start acting weird and killing parents - then at the end they have the teen emo girl throwing up after watching mum kill her little sister and tries to leave it on some ambiguous climax that she may or may not be ill - after watching the deleted scenes one realizes - hah ha she is ill
which doesn't work - she's probably about 15 which means she's hit puberty biologically she is an adult - not a child so if this teen who has a visit from her aunt flo each month is infected why aren't the adults - it doesn't make sense
The Hubb tells me I shouldn't apply logic to horror films - which is true but come on just how stupid do they think there audience is - today is my last sensory deprivation session so maybe I won't be so analytical but fucking hell The Beast in Space was actually better and it was absurd porn

Agreed, there was no way that Heith Ledger was winning an oscar for that performance if he was still alive, every time he was on screen I was painfully aware that he wasn't getting even close to Jacks portrayal of The Joker

Re: The Last Film You Hated Thread.
THE BRILLIANCE OF JACK WAS THAT HE ACTUALLY ACTED PSYCHOPATIC...WHY AM I USING CAPS? thats better...anyway with heath you didnt get that feeling that he could snap at anytime...ive been to a psychiatric hospital and the one thing that gets you is how quiet and normal people are...then suddenly something would kick off.
heath really dragged that performance out of all credibility...he was poor and wooden...and as for the oscar...well i hope hes happy now cause he doesnt deserve it

I concur on the "no way was it an Oscar performance" thoughts.....and I seem to remember I've made my feelings rather clear before now.
Seriously, he got an Oscar because he copied Jack Nicholson and added an occasional lick of his lips.....stunning!

Re: The Last Film You Hated Thread.
i agree again...this film was so hype and it turned out pisspotical...really poor, which is a shame. I guess all they care about is money and they churn out any old shite nowadays
remakes do my head right in...remaking psycho and the original Halloween is a tipical example...YOU CANT REMAKE CLASSICS! im sick of remakes from films less that twenty years old

Yeah, americans remaking asian horrors should also be banned. I liked the batman begins film but dark knight made me weep manly tears of dissapointment

no shit and The Hubb told me he read in Fangoria awhile back they want to re-make Evil Dead - I really hate re-makes there's no point if someone can't sit through a film with subtitles its their loss
for the record I also hate anime dubs - the last thing I want to hear is american voices when watching things like Legend of the Overfiend

A remake of Evil Dead would be a crime punishable by a lifetimes torture! Never can it be done as well as Bruce and Sam did it!

hopefully it won't happen - besides as I've said before Evil Dead 2 was a remake of it anyway so what is the point - to be honest The Hubb has told me so many films are being remade that I've just tried to ignore it because it will just get me angry
should have seen that the end of creativity was in sight when they remade Psycho
Re: The Last Film You Hated Thread.
There's rumours of remaking The Crow. Can't remember who was supposed to be doing it, but he said the first one was too dark and gothic, which I understood to be it's appeal.
He also said he wanted his version to be more "hard edged and realistic".
Yup, a film about a man brought back to life by a crow needs to realistic.

I like to think of Evil Dead 2 as Evil Dead and Evil Dead as a very good practice run so that I dont have to think of it as a remake but as more of a refinement.

Re: The Last Film You Hated Thread.
well Sam Raimi said on I think it was the Incredibly Strange Film Show (this going back a long time) that there were things he was disappointed with in the original (mainly the tree rape scene - he thought he may have gone to far with that so he redid the film) - so it is a remake but also a refinement as you say
remaking The Crow - jeezzzzz - its not my favourite film - but fucking hell the star was killed in the production of it - can't anything become sacrosant - or is it that it sold really well and Hollywood isn't willing to take risks so just remake something that sold once before.
thing is there are plenty of creative people making films - they often end up low budget indie productions - which is where people that like films go to see - whereas Hollywood is just for the lowest common denominator

Re: The Last Film You Hated Thread.
Definately. I just checked, and it's Stephen Norrington, who made Blade and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Re: The Last Film You Hated Thread.
in explicable - ridiculous another film I won't be seeing - still haven't seen the re-make of Planet of the Apes -
did see one remake that really got under my skin - 2000 Maniacs - which was another film that didn't need to be remade the remake - was racist and homophobic - I'm sure that directors next film will be Birth of A Nation
you know I might understand someone wanting to remake Metropolis or any of the old silent films - but not really
if people can't watch a film that was made years ago - fuck 'em
The Crow was made for a very specific audience - it was made for the goth - aggro - industrial audience - hence the music on the soundtrack- not to mention the graphic novel - it's not like Tina Turner stopped me from watching Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome -
Hollywood is also remaking Hellraiser

Re: The Last Film You Hated Thread.
Technically 'The Thing' is a remake, and I love that film. Although it's closer to the book than the original film, so it's a grey area for being a remake.
I liked both the original 50's version and the 70's remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Saw enough of the recent version to detest it.

Re: The Last Film You Hated Thread.
if they think they can make a fast buck out of it they will remake anything...stage is following screen as well. Theatre used to be about originality and art...now its full of shite that they throw together from a 70's-to 80's tv show...its dying my friends...original thought is dead

Re: The Last Film You Hated Thread.
most definitely - creativity is no longer valuable - no wonder we aren't evolving as a species
Re: The Last Film You Hated Thread.
That's not true, Jean Pierre Junet is a genius and I love watching a Del Torro movie. Both of those two have hollywood cred and they make good films. David Lynch still gets funding for movies too which I am forever greatfull for.
Frag: The Thing is awesome. When I was about 5, 6 to 7 Years old my parents used to tape me the horror film or b movie that was on the night before so I would have something to watch when I got up really early on Sunday mornings and I loved all the old Hammer films or Universal monster movies along with films like Village of the Dmaned and Tarantula I already had a good start on being a film geek. But they didn't realise once and thought they were recording me "The Thing From Outer Space" but it was actually a late night showing (on sky) of John Carpenters The Thing. I have never been so scared in my whole life and I strive to find a film that can scare me in such a way again but I've never found one. Either way it's a big fave of mine, even if it did desensitise me to the genre too :P

Re: The Last Film You Hated Thread.
David Lynch is an exception - keeping in mind he also exhibits his paintings - he's an artist most Hollywood directors just direct crap - not based on a plot but on the name of the actor, more like the more popular celebrity....and Hollywood's market is the lowest common denominator - maybe instead of spending so much on marketing - they could use the money to buy original screenplays and make original films - just think if all Hollywood directors were as creative as Lynch imagine the films there would be - instead of just toss
