Layer Cake.
Didn't really know anything about it. Remember seeing all the posters for it years ago but never got round to watching it. Arrived from Lovefilm yesterday so watched it last night.
Pretty awesome. Theres something great about watchign a good film you when you have no idea what its about and have no expectations.
It was as funny, suspenseful, exciting and shocking as it needed to be when it needed to be, and the acting was top notch all round.
Only issue was the Blu-ray showed up a few focusing problems
If you haven't seen it and like crime thrillers/dramas, give it a go!

Fightclub again, one of those films where it's great to watch more than once as there is lots of stuff to pick up on re-watches. A thorough recommendation to anyone (tho not for the faint of heart).

Slumdog Millionaire.
Danny Boyle's new one, in which The Skinny Stupid One from Skins wins the Indian Version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Waaay better than that sounds, but hard to put you're finger on what type of film it is - romanticcomedy Bollywood gangster quiz-show.
I'd heard all the hype and completely disbelieved it but it's probably the best film I've seen in ages and certainly the best written film in a lot longer.

The Spirit - 2/10
What a turkey this was. Went to watch it last night, was expecting great things as it was from the director of Sin City and 300. Unfortunately, appart from the arty look of the film (similar to Sin City), there's nothing else good about this movie. In fact during it a number of people walked out. I would of done the same, but I'm a tight Northerner and had just paid £3.25 to go and watch it.

TMNT - Teeange Mutant Ninja Turtles.
I thought it would make for a nostalgic trip down memory lane. While the original films were quite bad, they retained the feel of the turtles. In this one, it just feels a universe away from how I remember the turtles in a half shell.
I never had high hopes for it, but was still a bit let down. The story, even for a kids film, was just far too contrived and often daft and implausible.
A disappointement, though nicely animated and with good sound. 5/10.

Storm Warning
Australian film about a couple who go fishing/sailing and land up getting stranded/lost, and eventually coming across some back woods, inbreeding hostiles who would like to do them harm. No opints for originality.
The film is well made and the acting is bettter than I expected, but the aussies usually do a good job on those fronts. Problem is, the film wants to be up there with the likes of the recent torture/slasher fiilms, while it would have worked better as a suspense thriller. The suspense was there in parts, and the first two thirds of the film moved along nicely and really had me gripped.
By the third act though, it descends into mediocrity/stupidity. The female protagonist turns into macGuyver meets Ellen Ripley, while the man is left sitting on his arse, letting her do all the work. It also has to be noted that the female lead is the only smart one in the film and all men are made out to be idiots with one thing on their minds - I need to check if it was written by a woman
While I am a huge horror fan for all the gore, scares and chills, the gore here was totally gratuitous - I will re-state this should have just been a straight and not-too-violent thriller, rather than trying to be a horror film.
Sorry, was just meant to be a short summary - overall 5/10

DEFIANCE
The new Daniel Craig film. Set in the 2nd World War, in Belarus. Its the story of the Bielska brothers (who are Jewish) that flee into the woods to escape persecution. They are doing what they have to to survive, from making a community, to stealing from Farmhouses and Non-Jewish citizens. For a film I had no idea what its about, I really enjoyed it. There aren't many action scene in it, but there is an excellent story to it, with some good acting performances in it too. Definitely worth seeing, I reckon.

The Orphanage
Spanish ghost story which is really very simple and is better for it. Family move into large house where the mother spent some time as a girl. They intend to fix the place up and adopt several special needs kids to look after.
Not long after moving in the son disappears and the film centers around the mothers belief that her son is still alive and with them, and that the ghosts of other children have taken him.
It's not overly disturbing or creepy, but very watchable (if you can handle subtitles) and almost made me jump out of my skin a couple of times!
Watched on blu-ray with surround sound and the sound and picture were simply brilliant!

v for vendeta.
absolutely love this film. comic book based but pitched higher than spiderman. strangly it makes me more interested in politics, but its just my idealist side wondering why things dont change that much in recent years.
i suppose the film is a massive power struggle with a couple of good fights, clever words and story so well worth watching

V's not a bad film although a bit ham-fisted and over egged in places. I'd recommend reading the book though, it's a bit of a classic.

Evil Dead
Watched it again last night after not seeing it for many years... awesome film!
Sure, the acting, dialogue and various other things leave a lot to be desired, but all round, such good fun and still gross

Bad Taste/Brain Dead...lol
Those films are hilarious but so disgusting...
V For Vendetta was enjoyable, I'm sure though the book be miles better. V wasnt as controversial as it should have been imo...

Love fightclub - the more you watch it the more odd bits you see that you've not seen before.
I watched Appleseed - Ex Machina
Top anime, in the same graphical style as the remake of the original (sort of ray traced). This time they got the big guns in and got John Woo to direct. Anyone not seen any anime before, would be a great place to start. I recommend either of the new appleseed films, the original is good, but very old now, and the remake is just awesome. 9/10
